Another caring local.
I am Australian born. I've just finished a masters degree. I went through from undergraduate degree to the masters in 7 years. I have seen many international students at my uni in that time. We love having the international students to work with. But we don't always have the time to be as supportive as we would like to be and i know some of the universities have not given the backup help they should which is very bad. I helped an international student from Thailand negotiate re-submitting an essay and when she failed that enrolling for another half year to complete the course. Many students have this sort of problem. If you have any problems go to the student union on campus. They have people trained to help with these things. If your problem is not something they can help with they should tell you where to get help. You can also try any of the welfare agencies such as Anglicare or the Brotherhood of St Lawrence for things like housing and healthcare. Even though they are Christian church based agencies they help everyone without getting involved in anyone's religon. They will point you in the right direction for help. Lastly, I live in a part of Melbourne called Footscray. I love it here because we have people from all over the world here. I go to the market and meet people from India, Vietnam, China, Botswana, and other parts of the world. I particularly like all the Indian shops and restauraunts. We some of the best food in the world. I haven't been to India yet but now I think I would like to go. I wish you all well with your studies. Indian students in Australia I am student in melbourne i think being indian student in australia is ok. I never had trouble except for once but the guy was crazy and crazy people are in India to. A lot of my indian student friends feel the same people are friendly and helpful sometimes we meet people who are questionable but again same in rest of the world. When i was thinking of migrating to Australia I did not know what to expect but now that i am here i miss my family but love being here. I am always wondering though how to change my visa and apply for permenet residency now the course i am doing is not what i want and i don't think i will be a chef its not for me. does anybody know and is willing to tell me with out charging so much money my indian friend said you can pay a guy in melbourne $3000 and he will get you permanent residency but i don't think he can. is it legal? Working in Australia. I am working in a fast food outlet it is good there because i am getting IP hours done for my cookery certificate 4 i didn't have job in India and so it is lucky for me to be getting experience. bet i want to be Chef not just cook chicken. My boss only gives me $14 per hour and cash and no payslip ii don't know if he is breaking the law but my friend says he is.a lot of indian students can't get job so when they do the don't care if the boss doesn't do the right thing. Where can i get information to find out what is legal pay and how do i find out laws for hospitality industry? I am also talking to other inian students about getting a different visa they say that is you get someone to employ youfull time then you can change your study visa to 457 and then get permenant resident. My friend is a nurse and she got a job as a nurse and she does not do the course anymore. I am looking on seek job search to get new job in profesional kitchen but i think global finacial problem is making many business not have jobs. Studying to be a chef ?
Studying to be a chef ? I will tell you about my so called "school. It all starts with the reception. you ask a girl at the counter of my cookery school a question and they can never answer it they just try to send you to see someone else, but when you finally find that person they tell you to go to reception, They wont give us results unless we have paid fee for next semester and some students don't have books and are doing theary lectures but with no books. We can't even get a time table in good time always at the last minute and always changing times and location which makes it very hard to keep a job sometimes class in the morning sometimes at in the afternoon but never set and always change. other schools just 2 or 3 classes per week ours is 5 days also making it very hard to get jobs. Then always location change one time we where in the city then 20 mins east of city and then back to city then the worst is when they sent us to a enineers shed with a class room inside no air conditioner or heater and leaking room when raining. I feel like i'm in prison. Also i still not in a kitchen yet it has been 8 months since i started chef course and the only time i saw any kitchen was when they made me and 8 other students be a waiter for 4 weeks in their restaurant. so many other students at the school mostly indian are not very happy because the school is not profesional but are not doing anything because they just want to live in australia most of them don't want to be chef anyway so thay don't care they just copy each other in theory but the chef lets them pass anyway. I want to be a chef in Australa but i don'tthink the school really has anything to teach. all i know how to cook is indian food but i want to learn to cook Aussie food but no one will give me job without experience how do i get experience when can't get job and school teaches nothing just making a lot of money! Very thankful! I am chef from Malaysia I do cookery course but I got a job and my boss will sponsor my visa and now I can stay in Australia the chef at the school helped me because said I don’t need course I already qualify I am so happy now because school was very bad everyday change schedule and no good quality and in kitchen everybody just stand around small table and watch chef we never cook anything. I am very thankful to the chef and my new boss because now i living in Australia and not do course. Chin Qua Wong – Sydney I was Tricked. My name is Marie and I am Mauritius and I would like to tell you about how I was tricked when I come to Australia. I was talking with the agent in Mauritius about coming to Australia to work as a nurse I am nursing for 20 years now. She told me that you can only come to Australia if you do a cookery course and then after 2 years I will be ok to work as a nurse?? I was also told I could not go unless my whole family did the course to. So I agreed she told me she had arranged everything including a home and jobs. On our arrival we were supposed to be picked up from the airport by a driver and taken to our new home. The Driver was not there so we thought he may have left because we took too long coming from customs. We then took a taxi to the address given to me by the agent where a lady answered the door and informed me that it was her house and she was very unsure what I was looking for. At this time it was 2 am, my husband was furious and my three children also very upset we spent the night in a back packers lodge. We tried to call the agent but no surprise came when we could not reach her. So the guy at the backpackers told me he had a place for us to stay for $350 per week so we agreed as we had nowhere to go when we arrived there was 10 other people there and we 5 of us were to share A room without a lock and there was only 1 shower and 1 toilet. We are in a good home now and after 6 months of the worst run cookery course on the planet I found that I could apply for a working visa to work as a nurse. I really love being here now but what a nightmare I am happy to say all of my family are now settled and we love Australia. |
